BT pundit discusses rumoured West Ham role
It’s always interesting to see what route retired players when they hang up their boots: coaching or the media – particularly when it’s ex West Ham United stars.
Sometimes they mingle in both, a la Gary Neville and Thierry Henry. Others simply stick to talking about the game, like Danny Murphy and Jamie Carragher.
It seemed like former England international Joe Cole was going to fall into the latter category, until Football Insider reported last week that his former club West Ham have opened talks with him over a coaching position.
The 38-year-old was asked about the Hammers’ reported interest on Saturday and provided his side of the story.
“There’s been no contact, nothing,” he said on BT Sport. “It’s a tough one, Jake, because I enjoy sitting down here on Saturday mornings talking to you.
“I enjoy my spare time, but who knows what’s happening? At the moment I’m happy here.”
Cole’s former England colleague then weighed in, saying: “He’s been spectacular on that touch screen.”
West Ham Zone’s View
Cole obviously has a lot of experience and wisdom to offer the West Ham players, and you’d think he’d be able to do a lot for the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson.
However, he was very clear here. There’s been no contact. Therefore we’re not talking about anything tangible at the moment.
He seems to be enjoying what he’s doing at the moment, but he also didn’t completely shut the door on the Irons, so we’ll see what happens.
In other West Ham news, the club are reported to be preparing to make a key transfer decision on Monday.
