Brown bowled over by West Ham ace who shone v Liverpool
There were a few decent performances from West Ham United in their battling 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night, which will please David Moyes.
The Hammers boss can’t have expected too much from his players against the league leaders, but they gave it their all at Anfield.
People like Jeremy Ngakia, Issa Diop and substitute Pablo Fornals all showed that there is some quality still at the London Stadium.
One of the best performers on the night, though, was veteran midfielder Robert Snodgrass, who engaged in a fascinating tussle with his countryman Andrew Robertson.
Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown was very impressed by what the 32-year-old offered up.
“Brilliant, great lad, funny, I’m pleased to see him playing and what the West Ham supporters will like about him; he’ll run, he’ll try, he’ll give everything, he’s got some quality,” he told Football Insider.
“Is he as good as some of them on the ball? No, but he’s a great addition and I think Moyesy might start to say: ‘Do you know what? If these games get tight I need a Snodgrass.’
“He might give me a six out of ten, but he ain’t going to give me a four, he might give me a seven or an eight. He’s going to be there, he’s going to back me, he’s going to be onto his mates, he’ll get after a few’.”
Is Snodgrass now a key player for West Ham?
At the moment he is, yes. He’s played himself into that role, by doing many of the things Brown mentions.
The veteran Scot is dependable, and that’s what you need in a relegation battle sometimes. Moyes can count on Snodgrass, and that’s important.
His delivery is a big aspect of that. The Hammers don’t create an awful lot from open play, so set pieces are vital. Snodgrass can make them count.
It will be interesting to see how offensive Moyes is with his team selections moving forward, but either way Snodgrass will likely be involved.
In other West Ham news, the club’s supporters have been reacting to an official injury blow confirmed on Tuesday.
