Brian Deane wants West Ham to sign Mitrovic this summer

Former West Ham striker Brian Deane has told the club to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer as he would be a good goal-scoring option.

The Hammers have been linked with a striker since January and David Moyes is keen to finally get one over the line in the summer.

Reports have linked Mitrovic to the club, despite him having one of his worst goal-scoring seasons, and Moyes is said to be a fan of the ‘bullying‘ forward. [The Daily Mail]

The Fulham striker has only bagged three goals in 27 Premier League games – making him a questionable acquisition should the Hammers sign him.

However, Dean who was a striker in his heyday, backs him to succeed at the London Stadium.

He told Football FanCast, “You need somebody who knows the way around the box. You know, there’s a lot of people out there who will just take a look at a player and not understand why a manager wants somebody like him.

“This is a guy who is the record scorer for his country.

“Yeah, he’s not the most mobile of players. But what you’ve got with him is somebody who is there to finish off moves, so I think he would be a good signing.”

West Ham

No thank you

It’s hard to justify signing someone with three goals this season and for good reason.

Mitrovic isn’t a young striker who’s just broken onto the scene. He’s had previous experience of playing in the top flight – where’s he’s done much better than he has this time around.

Instead, our priority must be to sign someone that gets goals come what way. We’re linked with exciting players like Abdallah Sima and Duvan Zapata – so we shouldn’t settle for someone whose best days seem to be behind him.

Sure, he may be the record scorer for his country but that’s because there haven’t been any consistent Serbian attackers in history.

Stjepan Bobek with 38 goals is the second-highest scorer for Serbia – and he’s a player who spent his entire playing career in his home country.

We can’t afford to rest on past laurels if we are to mount a realistic top four challenge next season.
