Brian Deane slams West Ham amid Arnautovic links

Former West Ham striker Brian Deane has claimed West Ham are moving  ‘backwards’ by showing an interest in signing Marko Arnautovic.

The Hammers have shown an unlikely interest in their former player who left the club in controversial circumstances two seasons ago.

He handed in two transfer requests before eventually leaving the club, and it didn’t seem like West Ham will want to do anything with him in the future.

However, as we reported on Friday, the Hammers made an enquiry for the player and are willing to offer him a salary between £57,000 to £66,000 a week.

This hasn’t gone down well with Deane who slammed the club for showing an interest in the 32-year-old.

He told This Is Futbol, “I‘d be very surprised. I can’t see how he would fit back into the club.

“You can’t compare [then and now]. He’s older and what’s he going to cost in wages? That’s just a lazy signing for me if they go for him.

“I definitely think they should be moving on. It’s a move backwards to bring in someone like Arnautovic.”

What are we doing?

Arnautovic isn’t popular among the fans after the manner of the exit, so his move would be a hard sell to the Hammers faithful

At 32, he obviously isn’t the same player he was when he was playing for us and isn’t any better than the players already at the club.

We’ve been linked with a host of exceptional centre-forwards, most of whom are better and younger than the Austrian

Arnautovic hasn’t even played football in Europe since then and he might do well in China, but the Premier League is an entirely different ball game.

The wages that are being reported are also not worth it and we’d rather the club spend the money on other players instead of bringing back relics from the past for a few years.
