Breel Embolo unlikely to join West Ham - journo
West Ham are not expected to sign Breel Embolo this summer, according to Evening Standard journalist Jack Rosser.
The Hammers have been linked with several strikers since Sebastien Haller’s departure in January as David Moyes is keen on getting in a proven goal scorer through the door at the London Stadium.
Recently, 90Min reported that West Ham had enquired about his availability, but Rosser does not expect the move to go through.
Speaking to Transfer Tavern, Rosser said, “He’s an impressive player. I don’t know whether he’s someone that would want to come in and be a number two.
“I know Moyes would like, if he can get a striker, to give real competition for Antonio. I know he’d like another one to come in, but again, that’s where you sort of get budget issues cropping up.”
Should be an option
Embolo, who’s already capped 48 times for Switzerland, is an established international and club striker we must keep tabs on throughout the summer until we don’t sign someone who can lead the line for us.
Rosser believes he won’t join because he wants to be the first choice at his club, which is fair enough, but he will be the first choice should he move to West Ham in the coming weeks.
Michail Antonio has been decent whenever called upon, but he’s in no way a consistent striker who’s going to guarantee us 20 goals every season.
With the right service around him and the team built to play to his strengths, we’re confident that Embolo can be that player for us and his versatility will give Moyes the option of deploying as a wide forward in certain games as he’s capable of getting at opposition full-backs and beating them for raw pace.
We’re unsure as to whether Tammy Abraham is still a feasible option so it wouldn’t hurt us to keep Embolo on our shortlist until we have clarity on that situation.
