Brazilian media savage West Ham United ace Lucas Paqueta with humiliating Twitter post after Brazil v Croatia
Brazilian media have absolutely savaged West Ham star Lucas Paqueta on social media after his performance in Brazil’s World Cup defeat to Croatia.
The midfielder started alongside Casemiro in midfield once again in a tight game that was goalless after 90 minutes, before Neymar gave the favourites the lead with a wonderful solo goal thanks to a Paqueta assist.
He was then subbed off and Brazil conceded, before crashing out on penalties. But that didn’t stop Choquei, a Brazilian media outlet with over 2 million followers on Twitter taking a dig at the Hammers man with a humiliating post.
“Wanted: Player from Brazil known as Lucas Paquetá. Last seen dancing in the desert,” they wrote on their official Twitter account (9 December).
Paqueta was heavily criticised for his celebration against South Korea after scoring the fourth goal in a 4-1 win in the last 16, but he’ll now be coming home to east London as they were dumped out of the tournament.
Ouch
Paqueta had a brilliant tournament for the most part, but as the saying goes you either die the hero or live long enough to become the villain.
Brazil found themselves outnumbered in midfield for the majority of the game and struggled to really get control, as Luka Modric ran the show as he so often does in that role.
But with Casemiro a world renowned name and Neymar the world superstar and favourite neutrals, it was never going to be them that got criticised and so that fell on Paqueta.
Most will recognise the good work he did in Qatar and praise him, and it would be a huge shame if the West Ham man was only remembered for this post rather than all the excellent things he did for the team.
It wasn’t a good showing by any means, but to single him out is harsh. But that’s what happens when you’re a superstar playing for one of the biggest teams around I suppose.
