Bournemouth rival West Ham United in race to sign £25m Bristol City sensation Alex Scott

Bournemouth are looking to rival West Ham United for Bristol City youngster Alex Scott, according to the Daily Mail.

The billionaire-backed Cherries have joined the growing list of clubs who are tracking Scott, who looks destined to exit Ashton Gate this summer (Daily Mail, 12 June).

It’s believed West Ham have watched the jet-heeled 19-year-old this season along with Wolves and scouts from Liverpool.

Talent

Scott is a mercurial talent – he will no doubt be playing in the Premier League next season.

Considering West Ham’s success when recruiting from the Championship, this is a move they should be all over. Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen were plucked from the second tier, as was Flynn Downes. It can be a profitable market to shop in.

However, £25million is very steep for a player who has only proven himself in the Championship. Yes, he’s young, but that sort of figure could well be used to thrash out a deal for an experienced Premier League campaigner.

The summer is shaping up to be another busy when for David Moyes and the board. The Scot will remain in charge next season and it’s essential that he is backed adequately.

Big money was spent last summer, and more of the same will be required if the Hammers want to improve on their dismal Premier League campaign.

Yes, the Conference League was a memorable competition, but West Ham can’t pin all their hopes on Europe each season.

A top ten finish and another deep run into the Europa League would constitute an excellent campaign.
