Boost for West Ham United as Liverpool duo miss out with injuries

Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Tuesday (18 October) that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota will be out of the World Cup through a calf injury which means he won’t play against West Ham.

The Hammers will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday, and they will be boosted by this news.

Likewise, the Reds boss has also confirmed that Ibrahima Konate will be out as well, but he could return within the next 10 days.

James Pearce wrote on Twitter: “Worst fears confirmed as Diogo Jota ruled out of the World Cup with serious calf injury.”

Klopp added: “Oxlade [Chamberlain] is getting closer, [he was there] yesterday [in] team training. Naby [Keita] is now in parts of team training. Ibou [Ibrahima Konate] won’t be out long, maybe 10 days.”

Difficult venue

West Ham have not won at Anfield since 2015, and David Moyes can expect another tough game despite the fact that the Reds are missing two key players.

They have lost on each of their five most recent visits, although the Hammers provided a strong fight last time, losing by a 1-0 margin.

Moyes has shared his admiration for Klopp ahead of the match, and rightly said it’s a very daunting place to go.

West Ham

Liverpool have made their worst start to the season under Klopp, but they have shown hints of getting back to their old best after beating Rangers and Manchester City in their previous two games.

The Hammers are in good form as well, but Moyes was left frustrated after a 1-1 draw against Southampton in the last game, which he thought the Londoners should have won.

It would take a huge performance from the players to get something from this game, and Moyes need to get his tactics spot on.
