Blackburn manager admits West Ham target Ben Brereton Diaz likely to leave this summer

Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has admitted that West Ham United target Ben Brereton Diaz is likely to leave the club in the summer.

The Chile international has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium in the ongoing transfer window.

Tomasson was quoted in a report by Lancs Live where he heaped praise on the 23-year-old, who according to him is a “great player.”

“Ben is a great player and clubs want great players,” he told Sky Sports. “At the moment he’s a Blackburn Rovers player and he’ll do well for Rovers.

“I have a great relationship with the boy, I’m enjoying seeing him on the grass every day doing the best for the club, for the team and he’s a great player.

“Of course, I would love him to stay but I understand how football works. Great players come and go.”

Pivotal Striker

Despite the talks about the loopholes in the middle of the park, there is no doubt that the striker position was the main concern for David Moyes ahead of the ongoing transfer window.

After their Europa League defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, the former Manchester United manager rued lack of attacking options in the final third.

The addition of Gianluca Scamacca is definitely a step in the right direction and if it is coupled with the potential arrival of Diaz, it would create a fantastic forward partnership at the London Stadium.

It would also take away the goalscoring responsibility from the likes of Michael Antonio who had his own injury concerns in the last season.

Moreover, it would also allow Jarrod Bowen to improve numbers who enjoyed a fantastic opening season with the Hammers and ended up earning his first international cap.

In the 2021-22 season with Blackburn, Diaz scored 22 goals and provided three assists in 37 Championship appearances [Transfermarkt].
