Berbatov claims ‘defensive injuries’ will be the difference as he predicts West Ham v Liverpool
Dimitar Berbatov has backed West Ham to pick up a point when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening.
The former Manchester United striker thinks the Hammers will draw 1-1 when they line up against last year’s Premier League champions.
While doing his weekly predictions for Metro, Berbatov claimed Liverpool’s missing defensive players will give David Moyes’ side a chance of getting something at Anfield.
He said, “West Ham are the one team I always say struggle to be consistent. Liverpool have a lot of defensive injuries and have looked weak at the back more than once this season. I think West Ham can grab a draw here, Liverpool have been leaking goals. 1-1”.
It is true that the Hammers have been somewhat inconsistent this season. We have seen them perform poorly against Newcastle but then go toe-to-toe with Tottenham and Manchester City and pick up a point against both of those sides.
This West Ham side also nearly pulled off the near-impossible last season, as they came close to taking three points at Anfield, as they led 2-1 after an hour. But the Hammers blew a good chance to win at the home of the champions thanks to late mistakes from Lukasz Fabianski.
Michail Antonio will miss Saturday’s game through injury which means Sebastien Haller could lead the line for the Hammers. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been very complimentary of Haller in his pre-match comments and praised the striker’s speed and physicality.
Saturday also presents an opportunity for Said Benrahma to make his Hammers debut. He will want to prove that he can perform against the best if he plays at Anfield and his quick feet could prove to be dangerous against Liverpool’s weaker backline.
In other West Ham news, a report claims Michail Antonio wants to stay with the Hammers for the rest of his career.
