Bent wowed by reported West Ham bid
West Ham United’s goalkeeping situation got a significant boost on Wednesday with the signing of former Middlesbrough stopper Darren Randolph.
However, there may be more in the works. That’s because Football Insider reported earlier this week that the club had submitted a £7million for Cardiff City ‘keeper Neil Etheridge.
Whether that’s a deal that is still on the cards after Randolph’s signing or not remains to be seen, but former England international Darren Bent is excited by it nonetheless.
“Yeah I know Neil really well, I was at Fulham with him,” he told Football Insider. “He’s a good character, good goalkeeper, really dedicated at what he does.
“And yeah he’d be a fantastic signing. At the moment, it just highlights the real lack of top-quality goalkeepers that are out there, I think Etheridge is good…”
Will Etheridge be added to the Hammers’ squad?
You wouldn’t have thought so after the addition of Randolph, would you?
Yes, first choice shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski is out injured, but the Irons now have Randolph, David Martin and Roberto in place.
To add Etheridge to that mix, especially for £7million, just seems like overkill. Surely David Sullivan can find a better use for that money. A new central midfielder, perhaps?
In other West Ham news, Sullivan himself has been reflecting on some of the regrets he has from his decade at the helm of the club.
