Ben Foster reacts to West Ham United controversy after what he saw: ‘Rubbish’
Ben Foster believes Edson Alvarez’s red card was a “nail in the coffin” for West Ham United in their defeat against Nottingham Forest.
The Hammers visited the City Ground on 2 November and were beaten 3-0 with goals from Chris Wood, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ola Aina.
Alvarez was sent off towards the end of the first half after picking up his second yellow for a challenge on Anthony Elanga, with the Irons already a goal down.
Speaking on The Football Fill-In [4 November] about the game, Foster said: “It’s a nail in the coffin as well, isn’t it? At that point there, the red card happens, you’re already getting pumped.
“At half-time, by the way, West Ham made two substitutions. They were rubbish in that first half. I think they had their first shot on target in the 45th minute.”
Edson Alvarez put West Ham under the bus v Nottingham Forest
Julen Lopetegui is under pressure at West Ham because of the poor start to the season, with his team sitting fourteenth in the league table.
The game against the Tricky Trees was a chance for the Hammers to get a run going after the 2-1 win over Manchester United on 27 October.
But the Irons have been inconsistent throughout the campaign and that was once again on show at the City Ground.
Lopetegui made a few tactical changes, playing three at the back, but that wasn’t enough to stop Wood, who has been in exceptional form this season, from finding the back of the net early.

It would’ve been interesting to see how the team performed in the second half had Alvarez not been sent off, but the Mexican’s departure led to some questionable decisions from the manager, costing the Irons dearly.
Against Manchester United, West Ham weren’t any good before the break but came out strong after, which has been a trend for Lopetegui’s side this season.
It’s surprising to see the Spaniard still in the Irons’ dugout going into the game against Everton on 9 November, and that could have a massive say on his future.
