Ben Foster predicts ‘absolutely golden’ West Ham United Premier League finish

West Ham United will finish in the top 10 of the Premier League after their “good” start to the season, according to Ben Foster.

Speaking on The Ben Foster Podcast (3 October), the former top-flight goalkeeper acknowledged the exceptional start David Moyes’ side have had, with their recent 2-0 win over Sheffield United cementing them in 7th place on 13 points.

Foster pointed to Jarrod Bowen as one of the Hammers’ best performers, with the forward getting the opener against the Blades on Saturday (30 September).

Foster said: “West Ham [have had a] good start to the season. Jarrod Bowen’s on fire. West Ham will be absolutely golden this season. I’m going to say a top-10 finish for them.”

Safely

West Ham’s expectations would be to get at least a top-10 finish this season. Their last campaign was poor and relegation remained a persistent threat right to til the closing weeks, but their summer business has helped them reach their full potential.

In fairness, the Hammers are benefiting from the underperformance of some rivals, with Manchester United and Chelsea languishing in 10th and 11th place respectively. Aston Villa too have brought their excellent form under Unai Emery into the new season, with the Villans reaching long-missed heights in fifth.

West Ham earned impressive wins this season against Brighton and Chelsea in the early weeks of the season, showing they are worthy contenders to the big dogs.

The intensity of withstanding European football this season could impact their season. By now, much of this squad would be used to the Thursday to Sunday schedule, but fatigue could kick in and injuries to key players could force minutes on some who may need a rest.

That being said, the Hammers faithful could be nothing but impressed by the season’s opening games, and Foster’s prediction feels spot on.
