Ben Foster baffled by what he saw West Ham United do in 1-1 draw v Brighton
Ben Foster was furious with David Moyes and West Ham after he saw them play against Aston Villa and not go on the attack, he told his podcast.
The Hammers earned a 1-1 draw with Villa at the London Stadium on Sunday (12 March) to climb out of the relegation zone on goal difference alone.
But after a period in the first half that saw goalkeeper Emi Martinez keep the ball at his feet for two minutes without being pressured by the West Ham attackers at all, Foster told his ‘The Football Fill-In’ show (13 March, 39:13) that it’s the type of thing to get a manager sacked.
“Obviously there’s a lot of unrest at West Ham at the minute and there’s a lot of talk about David Moyes and his future,” he said.
“These are the little details which will get you sacked. When you listen to that, and Emi Martinez had the ball at his feet for two minutes in the first half, that will get you sacked.
“The fans are there, 60,000 of them turn up, and they’re watching their team just sit and stand there. Especially at home.
“You’re not playing Man City, you’re not playing Man United or Arsenal. You’re playing against Aston Villa.”
Crazy
It was so annoying watching West Ham play not to lose rather than play to win the game against a pretty average Villa side on Sunday.
Knowing the position we’re in in the Premier League table, and knowing how tight it is with the teams around us, a win would have been absolutely huge.

However instead we just sat back in our shape and invited pressure, which in the end paid off as we got away with a point. But without that penalty, we barely created a good chance and were probably lucky.
Moyes needs to change things and really start using the quality in his squad that he assembled to win games, instead of hoping to defend well enough to avoid losing and just racking up enough points.
More needs to be done and Foster is right. As it stands he’s basically asking to be sacked by refusing to improve the team and not push us forward.
