Ben Chilwell news: Darren Bent baffled by West Ham transfer update he’s told
Darren Bent has been left baffled by West Ham United’s transfer links to Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell.
According to TBR Football [18 October], the Hammers are interested in signing the 28-year-old full-back, with the Blues ready to sanction an 18-month loan for the wantaway player.
While rumours have gone cold since that report, Chilwell’s possible move to the London Stadium has been mooted once again, this time being shut down by a popular talkSPORT pundit.
Speaking live via talkSPORT [10 January], Bent said: “It’s a bit of a shame because I remember playing against Ben Chilwell at Leicester – strong, powerful, brilliant. He was brilliant at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel.
“But ever since he got that big injury, he’s never quite got himself back to that level, which is a shame. There will be a home for him but it won’t be Man United, and if you’re West Ham, why would you sign a player who can’t stay fit?”

There is no doubt over Chilwell’s technical ability, having impressed during his time at the King Power Stadium before making a big-money move to Chelsea in 2020.
However, in the five campaigns since that moment, the left-back has only made 107 appearances in all competitions, seeing him miss several matches through injury.
Chilwell’s injury history is the exact reason why Graham Potter needs to steer clear of the defender, who used to play under the former Blues boss during his short time at Stamford Bridge.
He has also managed to win 21 caps for England, showing what the defender is capable of when fully fit and firing on all cylinders, but unluckily for him, that is rarely ever the case.
While Emerson looks to be the only senior option at left-back, Oliver Scarles proved himself during his first start of the season against Aston Villa on Friday 10 January.
