Ben Campbell confirms he is leaving West Ham for PGMOL

West Ham Head of Communications Ben Campbell has confirmed on his personal Twitter account that he has joined PGMOL.

He was linked with an exit back in October, and he has now taken to social media to confirm his departure from the London Stadium in an emotional post.

Campbell was on duty for the last time as the Hammers took on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on New Year day, and he posted about his exit yesterday (Monday).

He said: “A thrilling game at Palace and perhaps a fitting end to a rollercoaster four-and-a-half year stint at West Ham Football Club.

“Met and worked with many great people. Enjoyed top moments too, hopefully more positive times ahead. Wishing everyone connected with the Club all the best for the future

“New year, new start! I’m departing to take up a new role as Head of Communications at PGMOL this month. Looking forward to an exciting challenge and getting started!”

Good for the PGMOL?

The Professional Game Match Officials Board – the group responsible for referees in the Premier League – could do with an experienced communicator given how controversial VAR has been so far since its introduction.

Having worked with the unpopular West Ham owners for the years, Campbell is definitely the best man for the job, and he could help the FA make better decisions.

The PGMOL informed the Hammers towards the end of December that they got big calls wrong in their Premier League games against Burnley and Arsenal, and they need an expert on board without a doubt.

PGMOL boss Mike Riley is not known for wanting to communicate that much, and it is only right if he brings someone who knows his onions in.

West Ham

West Ham will hope to get in the perfect replacement, and Campbell’s successor could have a huge job on his hands.

The Hammers will hope not to lose more key members anytime soon given the tasks ahead.

Irons co-owner Daniel Kretinsky has been tipped to complete a full takeover going forward, and the club need the best in the business across all areas.

In other West Ham news, an amazing attacker is making personal arrangements for Hammers switch in January.
