Behind-the-scenes update emerges as West Ham United want to sign £33m Everton midfielder Amadou Onana

West Ham are reportedly not being encouraged behind the scenes to pursue a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

According to the Sun [8 July], while the Belgian is on the club’s watchlist, there does not seem to be an active pursuit for him.

The Toffees signed the 21-year-old last summer for a £33million fee [BBC] and he’s gone on to become an important player for them.

Must be encouraged

The Hammers will be losing Declan Rice this summer to Arsenal and that’s going to be a major blow in and itself.

The 24-year-old is pivotal to the way the Hammers play and without him, they would probably be a Championship team by now.

Replacing him with one player is nigh on impossible so they need to bring in two solid midfielders that would see Lucas Paqueta thrive as well.

Joao Palhinha from Fulham is one name that’s being mentioned and if along with him, they can bring in Onana, it’ll be a great acquisition.

They may not even spend all the money they generate from Rice’s sale and even if they do, their midfield will certainly look remarkable.

They can then focus on recruiting players in other departments and get done with their transfer activity before the season even begins.

In other West Ham news, an injury expert has claimed that Moyes’ physical demands could see another star player seek a London Stadium exit this summer.
