BBC Sport statistician moots West Ham United top-half Premier League finish ‘at best’
West Ham will finish in the top-half of this season’s Premier League “at best,” according to BBC Sport statistician Chris Collinson.
The Hammers currently occupy seventh place in the league standings, with 14 points from their eight league matches so far.
That figure leaves them just three points off the top four and six points behind London rivals and league leaders Tottenham.

“Early-season enthusiasm around West Ham might’ve been a bit premature, with the Hammers overperforming their expected goals more than any other side,” Collinson wrote for BBC Sport.
“While they did pull off a masterclass against Brighton and won comfortably against Sheffield United, overall performances so far suggest a top-half finish at best.”

Harsh?
It is a harsh call to say that the Hammers can only aspire for a top-half finish at best, with David Moyes undoubtedly working hard behind the scenes in recent times to make sure that his club are among the top teams in the league.
The latest figures may suggest some gloomy times ahead for the East London club, but confidence is at an all-time high among those in claret and blue, and that’s how manager Moyes will look at the situation.
He has done a superb job in the dugout to get the club to this position, having been under huge pressure not so long ago.
There was every chance that last season’s Europa League Conference success would be short-lived, particularly following the exit of club captain and star man Declan Rice.
But the gap he left in midfield has been filled with some superb recruitment, with the Hammers currently going strong domestically and in Europe.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are in the hunt to sign one Bundesliga ace, with £35million needed to seal the transfer.
