BBC Sport journalist shares ‘remarkable’ verdict on David Moyes future at West Ham United
It is “remarkable” that David Moyes’s future as West Ham manager is being questioned, according to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone.
The journalist noted that such discussions regarding the position of the Hammers boss are a “distraction” for the club.
West Ham currently sit ninth in the Premier League table after 16 matches, and have secured qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

“The debate over the future of manager David Moyes seems to be becoming a bit of a distraction for West Ham,” Stone wrote for BBC Sport (14 December). “Moyes’ contract runs out at the end of the season and as yet, there has been no suggestion the Scot is going to get another.
“There has been talk of a move ‘upstairs’ and Moyes himself didn’t want to get into discussion about it ahead of the Europa League group decider with Freiburg. But it won’t help anyone if Moyes continues to get peppered by questions about his future into the New Year.
“It does seem remarkable given last season’s European triumph that the discussions are even needed but then results like the 5-0 defeat at Fulham just fuel the arguments of those who believe a change would be beneficial. The debate is not going to stop until there is clarity over what Moyes’ future holds.”

All talk?
It remains to be seen if it is simply all talk regarding the future of Moyes at the London Stadium, but it is certainly not the first time such talk has taken place.
The Scot was seemingly under serious pressure in the London Stadium dugout at one stage last season, with the Hammers struggling in the Premier League at the time. They were, however, flying high in the Europa Conference League, and of course went on to lift the trophy.
The Hammers were also guided to safety in the Premier League under Moyes, who may find himself in a similar position to last season when 2024 comes around.
But their comfortable top flight position, their Europa League progress and indeed their progress in the League Cup would suggest that Moyes is not in any immediate danger of losing his job.
That could, of course, all change in the coming months, particularly if the Hammers start picking up some unfavourable results across their various competitions.
