BBC pundit: West Ham United ace Michail Antonio ‘not fun to play against’

West Ham striker Michail Antonio is “not fun to play against,” according to former Swansea City and Everton defender Ashley Williams.

Antonio, who joined the East London club from Nottingham Forest in 2015, scored 14 goals in all competitions last season.

The striker opened his account for the new season with his club’s second goal in their 3-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday (20 August).

“He’s not fun to play against,” Williams said live on Match of the Day 2, as quoted by BBC Sport. “You’ve got all these big name strikers in the Premier League but [he’s] one of the strikers that you are just not looking forward to playing against…

“He’s going to take it down the channels and hold it up. It’s going to be a physical battle for the whole game.”

Antonio really is one of the best team players out there, with the Jamaica international constantly putting his teammates above himself.

Of course the striker would like to add more goals to his game, but that is not an easy task given the way the Hammers are currently playing.

David Moyes really relies on his lone striker putting in a mammoth shift in the final third, with Antonio challenged with holding the ball up when he has it and letting others into play, and then chasing down opponents when he is without the ball.

It’s an unenviable role, but one that the veteran forward does very well, as proven once again in these early stages of the new season.

But Antonio took things up a level against Chelsea, with the striker getting his reward for his hard work as he smashed the ball past Robert Sanchez in the 53rd minute of the match.
