BBC Commentator gushes over ‘fabulous’ West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus after what he did for Ghana v Egypt
West Ham star Mohammed Kudus got his Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a flying start by thundering in a strike from the edge of the box for Ghana, prompting huge praise from Steve Wilson.
The BBC commentator was stunned by the strike from the edge of the box which found its way into the bottom corner, giving Ghana the lead in their crucial AFCON group stage clash with Egypt.
Wilson described Kudus as the shining light of this Ghana team, gushing over the quality of the Hammers star after yet another moment of magic from him this season.
Commentating live on BBC Three, Wilson gushed: “Oh I say. What a fabulous strike from Mohammed Kudus. That is what he is all about, he is the shining light of this Ghanaian side.
“Mohammed Kudus with a moment of outstanding quality, with a blistering left-footed drive beyond the outstretched hand of Mohamed El Shenawy.”
Ekoku then chipped in: “He shifts it so easily, the ball stays pretty close to his feet, and that’s a thunderbolt isn’t it.”
Signing of the season
Yet again, Kudus has continued to show everybody exactly what he can do. Whether it’s for West Ham or for his country, it’s these moments of absolute magic that make him such a special player, and he has proved it again here.
After suffering injury troubles before the tournament with a hamstring injury, there were concerns that Kudus would not be ready to feature for Ghana early on, but after being rested for the opening day defeat to Cape Verde, he returned with a bang.
Having lost on the opening day, another loss for Ghana would mean an early exit from AFCON, but Kudus’ opening goal against Egypt provided hope and gave his side the best opportunity to keep their dreams alive, with his brace securing a draw for his country.
Ghana haven’t won AFCON since 1982 with the legendary Abedi Pele the star man of that team, and this could be the opportunity for Kudus to write his name into the history of his country if he can replicate that achievement in this tournament.
