Bayern Munich make last-gasp Julen Lopetegui approach to hijack West Ham United
Bayern Munich made a last-gasp attempt to appoint Julen Lopetegui before the Spaniard agreed terms with West Ham on Monday (6 May), according to David Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist reported that the Bundesliga side made one final enquiry about the former Wolves manager, with pressure growing on Thomas Tuchel’s reign in Munich.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Lopetegui has already agreed terms with West Ham to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Bayern Munich attempt to hijack Julen Lopetegui appointment at West Ham United
There has been speculation swirling around Moyes’ future at the London Stadium, but that finally seems to be coming to a close after the most recent update from Romano.
The news has been greeted by a mixed reaction from football fans. Some have been astounded by the Spaniard’s managerial record across spells with Wolves, Real Madrid, Sevilla and the Spain national team.
Some Hammers fans have not taken the news too well, though, with a petition being set up against the appointment of Lopotegui. Considering other links to Hansi Flick and Ruben Amorim, it seems the Irons may have drawn the short straw.
Understandably, the fans at the London Stadium are wary of which manager replaced Moyes, having experienced the turmoil of a less-than-successful replacement for the Scot before.

Manuel Pellegrini lasted just 18 months in London before Moyes returned to rescue his beloved Hammers and created a lot of memories with the club, most of all lifting the Europa Conference League title.
Although it does not seem like a fitting end to his time in charge, Moyes will know deep down how much the fans love and respect him for his achievements at West Ham.
