Barcelona now lead race for Vitor Roque after West Ham United tabled January bid

Barcelona now lead the race for Vitor Roque after West Ham United tabled a January bid for the 17-year-old, according to 90min.

According to UOL (24 January), the Hammers made a £12.3million offer for the Athletico Paranaense forward in the January transfer window but he is valued at around £35million.

90min now claim (14 February) the La Liga club lead the race to sign Roque, who is also being tracked by Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal.

It’s understood Athletico Paranaense cannot afford to keep hold of the striker for much longer, due to the increased interest from Europe.

Long gone

This is a move which now feels like it is long gone from West Ham’s perspective. There are some huge clubs looking to sign the Brazilian wonderkid, and it just feels unrealistic to believe he would move to East London.

After the mayhem of the January window, all attention is now firmly on the Irons’ survival push – and this weekend could well prove to be pivotal.

West Ham

Fellow relegation candidates Leeds and Everton are playing each other at Goodison Park, which could well present the perfect chance for the Hammers to put some distance between themselves and the drop zone. David Moyes’ side travel to Tottenham, in what has been a happy hunting ground in recent years.

Spurs are coming off of a dismal performance against Leicester City and also have a number of injuries to contend with. With positive performances against Chelsea and Newcastle United, there’s certainly an opportunity for West Ham. Three points could well be season-defining considering other fixtures which are taking place.
