Arthur Masuaku hints at West Ham stay for next season despite speculation
Arthur Masuaku has hinted he’ll be staying at West Ham next season with a post on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.
Masuaku, 27, has missed a lot of the season due to injuries and last month, Claret & Hugh reported that the Irons will listen to offers for the left-back in the summer transfer window.
More recently, Mundo Deportivo has reported that the Hammers are keen on Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo, suggesting that David Moyes is keen to strengthen that position ahead of next season.
However, Masuaku’s latest Twitter post suggests he’s ready to stay at the London Stadium despite being hampered by injuries this season.
The DR Congo international said: “[It’s] been a pretty special season this year.
“I’m very happy about the [European] qualification but still frustrated I couldn’t get more involved to help. But the team did so well though
“Now, time [to] rest a couple [of] weeks, then work and prepare next season.
“It’s gonna be incredible to see you back.”
Get fit and stay
If Masuaku can get his injury issues behind him then we have no issue at all with him staying because he showed this season he can be a star turn in Moyes’ squad.
The former Olympiakos left-back managed to make just 12 Premier League appearances this season, supplying two assists in the process.
The Irons fan favourite enjoyed his best form playing as a left-sided wing-back in a back-five, which saw Aaron Cresswell supporting him on the left from a centre-back role.
West Ham lost just three of the 12 league matches Masuaku played in and they were against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
He also stands out in the stats.
According to WhoScored, he ranks joint fifth in the West Ham squad for key passes per game [0.9], joint-second for crosses [1] and, astonishingly, first for dribbles per league outing [2.4].
Defensively, Masuaku was joint-fourth for tackles per match [1.7] but no player was dribbled past more often than him per Premier League appearance [1.9].
Masuaku impressed in the attack and that was because he knew Cresswell was there to support him.
His crossing ability will do wonders with Michail Antonio next season so we do hope he stays – provided he can keep himself fit.
In other West Ham news, Don Goodman was waxing lyrical about this Hammers ace in the win against Southampton, claiming he’s among the best at what he does in the league.
