Apple pay £110,000 to West Ham

West Ham have sold intellectual property to tech giants Apple for £110,000, according to Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan.

The Premier League have agreed a deal with Apple to use some of their assets and the company has also reached an agreement with the Hammers to show off the club in the television series Ted Lasso.

It is understood that Irons fans can expect the football comedy-drama to feature their team in the next season.

“A fortnight ago, this column revealed how the makers of Apple smash hit Ted Lasso wanted to pay the Premier League for use of some of its assets,” Keegan wrote on the Daily Mail website. “A deal has now been agreed but it can also be disclosed that Apple have paid West Ham £110,000 for the use of their ‘intellectual property’.

“Viewers of the show, which sees a folksy ex-American football coach run the fictitious AFC Richmond, can expect to see the Hammers feature heavily throughout the forthcoming season — all the way to a thrilling, unlikely climax.”

We’re massive

Apple didn’t want Tottenham, Chelsea or Arsenal to star in their smash-hit series Ted Lasso – they wanted West Ham.

The Hammers have already featured in the series before with the club being regularly connected to various people at the fictitious AFC Richmond.

Most people are unlikely to have seen the show due to AppleTV+ being low on the list of streaming services below the likes of Netflix, Amazon and Disney+. But you can bet that some West Ham fans will now show an interest once the third season drops.

We haven’t seen the series but it sounds a bit like an American version of Mike Bassett with an inexperienced coach taking charge of AFC Richmond, who are in the Premier League.

It looks as though there’s a takeover at the Hammers in the series so let’s hope that becomes a reality at some point.

Either way, that £110,000 from Apple won’t help out at West Ham too much but it’s nice little boost to the coffers.
