Ansu Fati breaks Barcelona silence amid West Ham United transfer talk

Ansu Fati has broken his silence over his Barcelona future after West Ham United were linked with a move for the Spanish sensation.

90min report on 19 June that the Hammers and Wolves were looking into a move for the 20-year-old, with Jorge Mendes attempting to engineer a move to Molineux.

However, it’s believed that Fati was reluctant to move to a lower-end Premier League side and he’s since reaffirmed his position on his next move.

West Ham

“I have a contract with Barcelona and my intention is to continue to improve and grow here. That is my intention. I have a contract and I’m happy. Both at my club and with the national team,” he told Mundo Deportivo (quoted by 90min, 19 June).

Fanciful

These links to Fati are fanciful in the extreme.

There’s no chance the one-time replacement for Lionel Messi is going to risk moving to a lesser Premier League side. If he did make the move and it didn’t work out, it would be a battle to restore his reputation among Europe’s best clubs.

From West Ham’s perspective, they need to be looking to sign players who want to move to the London Stadium – Fati certainly doesn’t. With a new director of football set to arrive, the board could look to be savvier in the market. Looking to land Championship prospects who are on the up would be a far more sensible route to go down.

West Ham

The likes of Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen have proven themselves to be superb assets for the board over the course of their careers in East London.

There are some excellent talents in the second tier at present and West Ham set to receive a large fee for Declan Rice, it’s certainly a route for the board to look into during the window.

With Moyes now set to remain in charge, it’s vitally important for the decision-makers at the London Stadium to back the Scot during what is another crucial period moving forward.
