Announcement imminent: West Ham United to sign Alphonse Areola
West Ham United could announce the signing of goalkeeper Alphonse Areola shortly, according to a report by club insider Claret & Hugh.
The 29-year-old played a crucial part in the Irons’ Europa League escapade last season whilst keeping five clean sheets in the completion as well as some very memorable displays.
Newcastle’s reported [Daily Mail, 9 June] interest in the PSG ace has been rubbished by C&H whilst Fulham are said to not be able to raise the funds for his £125,000-per-week wages.

The door has been left wide open for the Hammers who are confident an announcement will be made shortly – despite hoping the deal would have been completed by now.
Irons boss David Moyes is very keen on the France international with the report also putting to bed any speculation of Burnley ace Nick Pope coming to the London Stadium.
Get it done.
How long does this saga want to go on? Seriously.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that Areola is the man to eventually replace Hammers stalwart Lukasz Fabianski when he finally leaves the club.

The Frenchman has proven this season that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level. If his lucrative experience across Europe and internationally didn’t already tell you that, his form in claret & blue certainly would have.
He is a beast of a goalkeeper and it is crazy to think nobody has snapped him up on a permanent deal already.
The former Fulham ace will be desperate to be number one which is why the deal might have taken this long to get to this point – even now it is completely over the line.
Areola might have to be patient and wait for Fabianski to leave the club, which will most likely be at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, to be the number one – but who knows what will happen.
