Angelo Ogbonna may be offered one-year West Ham extension
West Ham may possibly offer a new deal to centre-back Angelo Ogbonna, according to a report by Claret and Hugh.
They say that his performance recently have been “excellent” and while the Hammers are yet to make a decision over his contract, he could be offered a new one-year deal.
Ogbonna made the headlines on Sunday afternoon after scoring the winner for the Hammers against Everton at Goodison Park.
Ogbonna is 33 and is far from being the player he was during his peak, but is still rated highly by David Moyes.
Despite having defenders like Issa Diop and Craig Dawson, Moyes appears to prefer him over the duo, which says something.
Age may just be a number, but it does catch up with you and if the Hammers are planning to sign another centre-back back next summer, then it makes sense to part ways with Ogbonna.
Kurt Zouma and Ogbonna have done well as a pair so far but it can’t be the long-term option for West Ham.
This season could serve as a swansong for the Italian, but resigning him for another year shouldn’t be considered by the Hammers hierarchy.
Hopefully, from now until the summer, they narrow in on a replacement and sign him in good time, ensuring it is not left too late.
