Andy Goldstein: West Ham winning the Premier League would be bigger than Leicester
West Ham are flying high so far this season, sitting third in the Premier League table 11 games into the 2021-22 campaign.
Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool saw them leapfrog Jurgen Klopp’s side in the table, and with just three points between them and league leaders Chelsea, some reckon the Hammers should be considered title challengers.
TalkSPORT host Andy Goldstein is not ruling it out, but he has questioned whether West Ham winning the top-flight would be considered a bigger achievement than when Leicester City did it in 2016.
He said (as shared on their official account): “If West Ham won the Premier League, would it be a better achievement than when Leicester won it?
“I think it would be because in this current season, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool look much stronger than in 2016.”
Incredible
West Ham fans are not jumping ahead of themselves despite their mind-blowing start to the season, but they would definitely love to end 2021-22 with a piece of silverware.
With 27 games still to play, it is too early to tag David Moyes’ side as title challengers, but they cannot be ruled out either after the Hammers manager finally recorded his first win over Klopp on the eighth attempt.
The Foxes blew everyone away back in 2016, winning the league against all odds.
Should the Hammers do so this term, it is definitely going to be a better achievement given the strength and squad depths the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United boast of.
West Ham are in search of their first major honour since 1980, and having secured places in the League Cup quarter-finals and Europa League last-32, just anything is possible.
They have shown they are capable of going toe to toe with the best teams in the top-flight, and one or two quality additions in January could make them genuine challengers.
Landing a top striker to provide Michail Antonio with much-needed cover would come in very handy, and the Hammers can definitely dream if they manage to get one.
