Andy Goldstein hits out at ‘bonkers’ West Ham United owner after David Moyes sack news
Andy Goldstein has called David Sullivan “bonkers” after it was reported that the West Ham owner had delayed the offer of a new contract to David Moyes following the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal.
The talkSPORT host insisted you cannot sack your manager after one bad result, claiming sometimes you have to write those results off and move on as they can happen sometimes.
No mention was made of the fact the Hammers are yet to win this year, or that they have conceded 12 goals in their last four games, but Goldstein slammed the owner for delaying any contract talks.
Goldstein read the news update live on talkSPORT [12 February, 16:13], sharing: “David Moyes’ future as their manager is in doubt. Moyes was close to agreeing a new two-and-a-half-year contract, but it is said that owner David Sullivan is less certain of keeping the Scot beyond the end of the season.
“David Moyes will be given time to reverse those fortunes in their next four games against teams in the bottom seven of the Premier League. Those games are Forest away, Brentford at home, Everton away and Burnley at home.”
He then gave his verdict: “I have to say, any owner that decides or is swayed by the result over his manager and his long-term future there, I think is bonkers. You get games like that. Sometimes I think you just have to write it off as a bonkers afternoon, these things happen. You can’t sack a manager for one game.”
David Moyes could be sacked by West Ham
With such a short time left on his current deal, the discussion has been rumbling throughout the season about whether or not Moyes should be offered a new deal or if they should let him go at the end of the season.
That pressure is probably higher than ever following the result against Arsenal, which itself came off the back of a 3-0 drubbing against Manchester United at Old Trafford to compound the fact that Moyes’ side are without a win since December.

Points can still be made on both sides of the argument, with the Hammers’ lofty league position and Europa League qualification, as well as credit in the bank from the Conference League victory, still going in favour of the boss.
However, any more results like that and the board’s mind could be made up, with fans having already grown frustrated by the style of football despite the results, calling for a more forward-thinking boss to take the reins.
