Andy Cole unconvinced by West Ham valuation of Declan Rice

Andy Cole has been left unconvinced by the hefty price tag of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

Rice has emerged as one of the top midfielders in the country this season, and the Hammers have set an asking price of £150million for him [The Athletic].

The England international has been superb for his club and country, but Cole thinks it is still a lot of money for a holding midfielder, especially for someone who is not known for scoring too many goals.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Cole said: “£150M for a holding midfield player?

“That’s a lot of money. Not sure how many goals he’s going to get you from that position.”

Perspective

It is all about perspective. It depends on what you need for your side.

If any club is looking at a midfielder who can get them goals, then they should turn their attention elsewhere, and look for players like Jude Bellingham.

However, if a team feel they need a solid holding midfielder who can be a leader both on and off the pitch, then Rice is perfect for them.

West Ham

Rice has always been a fantastic tackler. However, he has taken his game to a whole new level this season, especially after his impressive performance in the Euro championships.

He now bursts forward from deep midfield, dictates the tempo of the game, and has developed a wide range of passing abilities, which makes him a complete player.

West Ham are in no rush to sell him, and any potential buyer will have to pay a huge sum to take Rice away from the club.
