Andriy Yarmolenko nominated for Euro 2020 goal of the tournament award
West Ham United winger Andriy Yarmolenko has been nominated for the European Championship goal of the tournament award.
The Ukrainian international bagged a worldie in his side’s 3-2 loss to the Netherlands during the group stages.
UEFA’s technical observer team made up of 16 former players and coaches, which included West Ham boss David Moyes, helped compile the list of the 10 nominees out of 142 goals scored during the tournament.
UEFA’s Euros official Twitter handle has since shared the top-10 goals and voting link for fans willing to support their own:
Tough one
All the top-10 goals scored at the Euros are brilliant, but Yarmolenko stands a chance given how spectacular his strike was.
The West Ham forward ended the tournament with two goals and two assists in five appearances, equalling his return for goals involvement at club level last season.
The 31-year-old ended 2020-21 with three goals and an assist in 20 games across all competitions, and Moyes could have been wondering why he did not see Yarmolenko’s international version at West Ham.
We are wondering the same thing too, and there are doubts whether we can see him replicate his country form for the Irons.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has just a year left on the four-year deal he penned when he joined us from the German outfit, and the club could be open to selling him this summer as opposed to losing him for free in 12 months.
A contract extension does not look likely at the moment from the look of things, and it is a pity that he never really got it right with us despite his obvious talents.
In other West Ham news, Hammers cannot afford fee for one player David Moyes badly wants.
