Anderlecht handed sanction by UEFA after West Ham incident in Europa Conference League
Anderlecht handed sanction by UEFA on Saturday (21 October) following their Europa Conference League defeat to West Ham earlier this month.
BBC journalist Simon Stone shared on Twitter that the Belgian club have been fined €50,000 (£43,900). On top of that, they will “pay for damage” caused to 86 seats, and toilets in the away section.
The Hammers were the 2-1 winners in that game, however, it was marred by crowd trouble in the away section. The Anderlecht fans threw flares and missiles into the home section.
Stone wrote on Twitter: “Anderlecht have fined €50,000 (£43,900) plus banned from selling tickets to its away fans for 2 games (1 suspended) following poor behaviour of their fans against West Ham last week. In addition, they must pay for damage to 86 seats and to the stadium toilets in away section.”
Consequence
It is necessary for the fans to behave properly, especially when you’re in the away section.
Goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen sealed victory for the Hammers. It has put them in the knockout phase with two games to spare.
The crowd incident led to 13 arrests with four police officials badly injured.
The Hammers must return to winnings ways when they face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Monday night at the London Stadium.
David Moyes’s side are heading into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Hammers played really well during the game, but a first-half goal from Darwin Nunez made the difference between the two sides.
Jarrod Bowen missed a penalty, while Tomas Soucek and Gianluca Scamacca got glorious opportunities to score an equaliser, but they couldn’t find the net.
The Hammers, overall, have been in good form after the international break, and they would be looking to secure all three points on Monday night.
