Amazon Prime pundit slams ‘terrible’ Jarrod Bowen moment during Liverpool v West Ham United

Jarrod Bowen missed a crucial penalty for West Ham on the brink of half time against Liverpool, with Reds goalkeeper Alisson saving his effort.

West Ham were dominated for much of the first half at Anfield, but the team defended well and were given a great opportunity to draw level on the brink of half time.

Bowen was taken down by Joe Gomez and awarded a penalty, but the 25-year-old saw his tame effort saved easily by Alisson.

During the half-time break, Amazon Prime pundit Eniola Aluko didn’t hold back in her judgement of Bowen’s effort.

“I mean it’s a terrible penalty,” said Aluko.

“He’s telegraphed exactly where he’s going to put it.”

Harsh

Playing against Liverpool is never an easy task, but the Reds gave the ball away a few times and West Ham were simply unable to capitalise on their mistakes.

After being pegged back in the first half, the penalty seems like the perfect opportunity for West Ham to claw their way back into it.

West Ham

It wasn’t to be, but it’s harsh to blame Bowen for not scoring. Alisson did superbly to get across to his effort, and while it was at an ideal height for the Brazilian shot-stopper, his shot was on target and hit with power.

Most of the time, that’s enough to see the net ripple, but Bowen was short of luck.

It’s easy in hindsight to suggest that Declan Rice should’ve taken the spot-kick, but Bowen has also enjoyed success with penalties and deserved a chance to take it after drawing the foul in the first place.
