Alphonse Areola makes number one keeper request to stay at West Ham

Alphonse Areola would like assurances that he will be the number one goalkeeper at West Ham if he is to stay at the club next season, according to Claret & Hugh.

The Hammers are said to be keen on keeping the Frenchman after his loan deal from PSG expires.

However, triggering the year extension in his deal doesn’t guarantee the 29-year-old’s London Stadium future.

Fulham – who he spent a year on loan with last season – are also interested in signing the Irons shot-stopper on a permanent basis.

His £90,000 weekly wage is relative to a Hammers first-choice keeper, the spot Areola wants with Lukasz Fabianski out of contract at the end of the season.

Get it done.

This is a no brainer from West Ham, isn’t it? They will be in desperate need of a goalkeeper at the end of the season with both of their first two picks not tied down to a contract at the club once the season ends which makes a move for Areola a must.

He has done excellently when called upon for the Irons and if they don’t rate him highly enough after his impressive Europa League campaign – playing a key role in their route to the semi-final – then they don’t deserve him.

The France international has so much quality but he has never been able to fully establish himself as a team’s long-term number one which might be a cause for concern.

With that being said there is absolutely nothing to suggest that the Hammers shouldn’t sign him during his spell in east London.

He is the experienced type of player Moyes will need as he looks to take his side to the next level next season.
