Alphonse Areola likely to start vs Dinamo Zagreb
Having been on the West Ham bench for the last four Premier League games, Alphonse Areola is reportedly in line for his Hammers debut.
West Ham face a tricky trip to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday in the Europa League before welcoming Manchester United at the London Stadium the following week.
With two big games coming back to back, The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas believes David Moyes will shuffle the back in Croatia, which will see Areola and Kurt Zouma make their debut for the club.
In his Q&A on the website during and after the game, Thomas wrote, “Good chance Areola, Zouma and Vlasic will start against Dinamo Zagreb next week.
“Moyes will be keen to rotate his side ahead of the game against Manchester United. Great that there’s loads of competition in the squad.”
Lukasz Fabianksi is Moyes’ first choice and for good reason. The former Arsenal goalkeeper has exceeded expectations at the London Stadium and been a reliable stalwart for the manager.
Areola, on the other hand, would want to play games too, otherwise he would’ve picked another club in the summer.
Possibly, he joined under the condition that Fabianski would be the first choice in the league now while Areola would play in the cup and Europa League games.
It would be a perfect way to gauge just how good he is and whether he’s ready to take over from Fabianski next season.
There’s no denying that he’s a quality keeper and has been billed “outstanding” by Jacob Ranson of the Newham Recorder.
We’re eagerly awaiting to see him making his Hammers bow on Thursday in the Europa League.
