Ally McCoist reacts to David Moyes update as West Ham United farewell mooted v Luton Town
Ally McCoist has predicted a “fond farewell” for David Moyes at the London Stadium as West Ham face Luton Town on Saturday (11 May).
The club confirmed on Monday [6 May] that the Scot would be parting ways with the Hammers once his contract expires at the end of the season, with Julen Lopetegui set to take over.
Moyes’ side will face Luton in the penultimate game of the season before travelling up to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on the final day of the season.
Ahead of West Ham’s final home game of the season, McCoist spoke live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (8 May, 6:39): “I think he’ll get the reception he deserves, I really do.
“Obviously, there is a percentage of West Ham fans that want to see a change. But he fully deserves a fond farewell and I think he’ll get one.”
Julen Lopetegui set to replace David Moyes at West Ham United
Tim Steidten looks to have already found a replacement for Moyes, a move that has been heavily criticised by passionate West Ham fans and the media.
The Scot has also experienced his fair share of pressure this season, with his defensive style of football and multiple poor results mounting pressure on the manager’s shoulders throughout the campaign.
Despite the comments from fans pleading for Moyes’ sacking throughout the season, he still deserves the utmost respect from the fanbase when the Irons face Luton on Saturday.
The final home game gives them one last chance to show their love and respect for the manager who led the club to their first European trophy in decades, feelings that seem to have been lost in translation amid frustration.

Moyes will certainly admit that many performances have not been good enough, and that is an understatement. Recent results include 5-0, 5-2 and 4-3 losses to Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
Those are just the tip of the iceberg this season, especially after experiencing an eight-game winless run at the start of 2024. However, Moyes must still go out with his head held high, applauded by the appreciative fans at the London Stadium.
