Ally McCoist backs David Moyes after West Ham controversy

Ally McCoist has defended the decision of David Moyes to bring on Mark Noble for West Ham United against Manchester United.

The veteran was brought off the bench to take the final kick of the game from the penalty spot to rescue a point but missed.

McCoist questioned why anyone wouldn’t do that, with Laura Woods backing that up over Noble’s “ridiculous” record.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist appeared to be one of the only ones who is defending the decision made.

“I understand totally David Moyes getting a little bit of stick,” he said.

“I do not have a problem with it at all. It is amazing, we would and it is our job to do it, be having the complete opposite conversation if he hadn’t brought him on and they missed.

“It’s just one of these things.”

Woods responded and appeared to back up McCoist’s argument after the controversy spilt into Monday morning.

“He’s got a ridiculous record.”

Heartbreak.

This controversy will hurt no one more than Noble.

Moyes rolled the dice and left it in the hands of his most experienced and reliable professionals at the club, and it backfired.

Sometimes, that is just how football works and we will never know if Declan Rice, who had the ball initially, would have fired home the penalty with ease.

It is easy to say it was the wrong decision after it happened, but Moyes would have been labelled a genius if it rescued his side a point.

Although it may seem hard right now, it is time to move on and make sure that we put games beyond doubt and these incredibly tense moments – we will learn from this.
