Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil cannot believe West Ham United after loss v Newcastle live on talkSPORT

Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil have launched a scathing review of the “unbelievable” defending of West Ham United that saw “all hell break loose” in their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday night (5 April).

Yet more pressure mounted on David Moyes’ shoulders after the shambolic performance at the London Stadium, which saw his side fall two goals down within 13 minutes and concede a further three poorly defended goals in the second half.

The loss leaves the Hammers in 15th place in the Premier League with ten games of the season remaining, but only above the relegation zone due to a superior goal difference.

West Ham

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, and as shared via their YouTube channel (6 April, 1:50), McCoist and Brazil were left dumbfounded by the shocking West Ham defending, admitting that it was impossible to win matches with this kind of sloppy play.

Brazil said: “Can you imagine his team talk Ally at halftime, ‘Boys, we’re back in this, let’s keep it tight, we get a second equaliser and we can go on and win this game’, and then boom all hell breaks loose.”

“The goals are unbelievable,” McCoist replied. “Even before Zouma scores his header, the second goal, shocking, the third goal, shocking, fourth goal, shocking.

“I thought the first goal was a good header. I mean you’ve got to say again you’ve got to balance it again by saying Newcastle were a different class.

“I mean, you’re coming down to London again after a great result against [Manchester] United and they’ve got a bit of form and I thought there was a wee turning point with Newcastle when they were away at Forrest and scored late on to win that game. They’re flying again.

“But you cannot have any chance at all if you defend the way West Ham did last night, it’s impossible.”

West Ham

Shambolic

After the somewhat positive display against a poor Southampton side at the weekend, the Hammers were sent crashing back down to earth in quite some style.

Newcastle were slick, organised and thoroughly good value for their victory, but they were given more than a helping hand from West Ham’s terrible defending.

The drubbing to Eddie Howe’s side is going to be hard to recover from, but the games continue to come thick and fast, with a trip to Craven Cottage awaiting on Saturday (8 April), followed by the club’s Europa Conference League quarter-final against Gent.

Although Moyes was under significant pressure for the correctly dubbed ‘El Sackico’ against Everton earlier this season – that saw Frank Lampard get sacked after – it feels like this defeat to Newcastle has put his job at West Ham United in an even more precarious position.

Anything apart from a win against Fulham and Moyes will surely be relieved of his duties.
