Ally McCoist and Agbonlahor would pick Michail Antonio over Kane right now
Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor have insisted they would pick West Ham ace Michail Antonio over Harry Kane right now.
The Jamaican international striker, 31, has hit the ground running in 2021-22, with five goals and three assists to his name in five Premier League appearances.
Kane is yet to open his Tottenham Hotspur account for the season in the top-flight, with his strike against Wolves in the League Cup his only involvement in goal in seven appearances.
Asked on talkSPORT who Chelsea would pick between Kane and Antonio to lead their line against Juventus in Wednesday’s Champions League clash, both pundits went with the Hammers hitman.
McCoist said (as shared on their official Twitter account on Wednesday): “Current form? Listen, I absolutely love Harry Kane, but on current form, Antonio over Kane.
Agbonlahor agreed, chipping in: “On current form, you’d pick Antonio, but in that Man City team, Kane would get so many chances, better finisher than Antonio so he would score more.”
Absolutely
With three Premier League Golden Boots and a World Cup Golden Boot to his name, the England captain is one of the best finishers the game has ever seen.
However, he has been woeful this term, with many citing his failure to move to Manchester City in the summer as the main reason, and his West Ham counterpart is doing wonders.
The forward is currently topping the goal charts, and if he keeps fit and continues at this rate, the Golden Boot could be his at the end of the campaign.
That is still a long way to go, though, and while nobody is suggesting he is a better player than Kane, he is without a doubt the most in-form striker in the land at the moment.
David Moyes will really hope he can keep scoring and stay off the treatment table.
The Hammers are looking to break into the top-four and challenge across all other competitions, and with Antonio’s current form, anything is possible.
