Alistair Bruce-Ball and Leon Osman wowed by Jesse Lingard v West Brom
Jesse Lingard assisted Michail Antonio to help West Ham to a 3-1 win over West Brom and BBC commentators Alistair Bruce-Ball and Leon Osman were wowed by the midfielder.
A devastating counter-attack late on presented the Hammers with a brilliant goalscoring chance but Lingard was patient, picked the right pass instead of shooting, and Antonio was able to turn the ball home to wrap up three points.
The England international drew the attention of the West Brom defenders and perfectly times his through ball to Antonio, according to Bruce-Ball.
In commentary for BBC 5 Live, he said,”Lingard times the pass to perfection… It’s a great night for David Moyes and West Ham.
Leon Osman was equally impressed, adding, “Terrific counter-attacking football by West Ham, Jesse Lingard when it counted, when the moment was important, he showed great composure.
“Lingard brought the defenders in narrow, allowed Antonio to make the run in behind Townsend and he weights the pass perfectly.”
Winning mentality
West Ham were far from their best against West Brom but the players stood up when it mattered to ensure three vital points.
Heads dropped a little after Declan Rice’s early penalty miss but we responded well to going a goal down.
Tomas Soucek’s equaliser just before half-time was vital and we somehow found another two goals in the last ten minutes to win.
We barely created anything but as has been the case in many games this season, we found a way to win.
That shows the determination in the squad and it all comes from the manager, who showed faith in Lingard and Antonio by keeping them on the pitch – and they repaid that faith.
We must make sure to recruit players who fit into the same mindset.
Soucek and Vladimir Coufal arrived with a winning mentality and their consistency has been unbelievable this term.
