Alex Pritchard rattles Millwall fans with West Ham United-inspired celebration for Sunderland

Millwall and West Ham have not been in the same league since the 2011-12 season but the Lions can’t escape the Hammers at all.

They travelled to the Stadium of Light on Saturday (3 December) where they were comprehensively beaten by Sunderland with the second goal scored by Alex Pritchard.

The 29-year-old is a diehard West Ham fan having had a season ticket as a youngster before making it in the professional game and he certainly let the travelling fans know about it.

As he netted to double the Black Cats’ lead, he wheeled away in celebration doing the iconic crossed arms of the Irons directed right at the away section of the ground, as the Sunderland Echo relays.

The last time West Ham and Millwall faced off in a league encounter, the Hammers moved four points clear at the top of the second tier thanks to a 2-1 win at Upton Park.

Any opportunity

When your historic and local rivals are so much worse than you are, it’s rare to get a chance to rub the salt into the wounds but Pritchard was determined to do the dirty work for West Ham.

David Moyes may well have had a wry smile on his face if he was watching the match but you can’t see any scenario in which he signs the Sunderland man as a result.

But one thing that is not seen anywhere nearly enough is an Irons player making that same gesture that unites every Hammer in the London Stadium and around the world.

A lot of the players will have celebration ideas ready to go if and when they score but none of them seem to be the arms crossed symbol.

It would be amazing to see a player properly show they are committed and a fan of the club by doing this when they score a big goal in the Premier League or on the way to European glory in the conference League.
