Alex Crook shares West Ham United transfer verdict amid Tim Steidten ‘teething problems’

West Ham United will sign at least two midfielders in the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

But the journalist believes that there are early teething problems between manager David Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten.

The latter was appointed in the role earlier this month, where he will work closely with Moyes and Sporting Director Mark Noble.

“Needs must,” Crook said live on talkSPORT. “They’ve got £100million. I think they’ll sign two midfielders at least in this window.

“But I keep being told that David Moyes and the new technical director Tim Steidten are not exactly on the same page in terms of targets. I think it’s an interesting one to watch how that situation pans out.

“I don’t think he was recruited to sign Scott McTominay and James Ward-Prowse, he was recruited because of his knowledge of the European market.

“It’s been intimated to me that there are early teething problems shall we say.”

Time for cohesion

Steidten may have been brought in to help sign world-class players from the top European leagues, but for now, he will have to settle for an immediate Declan Rice replacement.

That will perhaps be at the very top of the club’s list of priorities, but there are various other areas of the pitch that must also be strengthened ahead of the new campaign.

As with any new recruit, some issues can be expected, but Moyes and Steidten do not have time to argue over who should be brought to the club and who shouldn’t.

The new Premier League season is rapidly approaching, with the Hammers also having to focus on Europe thanks to their participation in the upcoming Europa League.

It seems at this moment in time that supporters of the East London club will take any new face in their squad.

And it isn’t as if the powers that be have the excuse of a lack of funds, with £105million in the bank following Rice’s exit to Arsenal.

In other West Ham news, one pundit has told the Hammers to wait until next summer to sign a wantaway Celtic star.
