Alan Shearer wowed by Jarrod Bowen footage on MOTD after West Ham loss v Tottenham
Alan Shearer was impressed with what Jarrod Bowen did in the early stages of West Ham United’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham on Saturday, 19 October.
Bowen was unlucky not to get an assist when he got in behind the Spurs defence and played a great pass to Mohammed Kudus, who then had a shot saved by Guglielmo Vicario, in the 10th minute.
Reacting to the footage on BBC Match of the Day (19 October), Shearer said hailed the West Ham attacker’s pass as “wonderful”.
“West Ham go through them too easily when he [Bissouma] was only sitting there and trying to protect on his own”, Shearer said.
“This is what happened, see the space in there, Bowen goes inside and they got in there in behind Spurs too easily, particularly down the right-hand side.
“It was a wonderful ball in, there was no protection, as I said, in there and this turns out, as it happens, it’s a great save from Vicario.”
Jarrod Bowen one of few positives for West Ham United in Tottenham loss
Bowen saw his influence diminish in the second half with Tottenham scoring thrice in the first 15 minutes, but was still one of West Ham’s best players.
Like Shearer, Ally McCoist was also amazed by the England international‘s work down the right flank and the early pass to Kudus.
It is worth noting that he followed up that early pass with another one eight minutes later, which the Ghanaian converted on that occasion.
Three of his 21 successful passes were played into the final third, according to FotMob.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old completed two of his five dribbles and registered five touches in the opposition penalty area.
The former Hull City man was also involved in defence, winning three tackles and six duels and recovering the ball six times.
Bowen can, therefore, walk with his held high despite the Hammers succumbing to a demoralising defeat.
