Alan Shearer names Declan Rice in Premier League Team of the Week as West Ham United break Leeds United hearts

Alan Shearer has named West Ham ace Declan Rice in his Premier League Team of the Week.

The star midfielder scored his club’s opening goal in their 3-1 win over Leeds United on Sunday (21 May).

Rice showed excellent composure to steer the ball home in the 32nd minute at the London Stadium.

His goal came after Rodrigo opened the scoring for the visitors, with Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini then wrapping up all three points for the hosts.

“A dynamic display and scored the opening goal for West Ham in what was an outstanding week for the club as they reached the Europa Conference League final,” Shearer wrote for the official Premier League website.

Rice has always been at the very top of his game, yet somehow it seems that he is still getting better as the matches go on.

Not only was he at his usual best against the Whites in terms of passing, tackling and running the show in general, he also showed the other side to his game, which is the ability to find the back of the net.

The England international has come under fire in recent times for his lack of ability in the final third, but he has proven this season that he knows how to find the net when called upon.

With Rice seemingly heading for the exit door, it was the absolute perfect way for the star midfielder to bow out at the London Stadium, with the 24-year-old kickstarting a superb comeback against Leeds in front of his adoring fans.

The Hammers will really miss their midfield maestro, but he can leave with his head held high, although the situation can be made even better yet if the captain helps his side lift the Europa Conference League trophy.
