Alan Shearer makes new Jarrod Bowen admission after West Ham United win v Ipswich Town

Alan Shearer has been left in awe of Jarrod Bowen admitting Ipswich Town “could not cope” with the West Ham United star.

The England international scored his second goal of the season and picked up an assist as the Hammers ran out 4-1 winners over the Tractor Boys at the London Stadium on Saturday (5 October).

While the Irons skipper was one of many impressive performers in Julen Lopetegui’s ranks against Kieran McKenna’s side, Shearer was quick to suggest that Bowen led by example at the top end of the field.

Writing on the Premier League website on Monday (7 October) he said: “Ipswich could not cope with the West Ham captain, who led by example with a goal and an assist to secure a first home win of the Premier League season.”

What happened to West Ham star Jarrod Bowen v Ipswich Town?

Although the Hammers have been nowhere near their best so far this season, Bowen and the rest of the team’s performance on Saturday showed that there is still plenty of quality left in this team.

It was always going to take some time for the Hammers to get up to speed after a summer which saw plenty of turnover both off and on the field, but it feels that things are now starting to click into gear at the London Stadium.

Although most of the attention has been directed at new signings like Jean-Clair Todibo and Crysencio Summerville so far, both Michail Antonio and Bowen showed that they have major rolls to play in the post-David Moyes era in East London.

Hopefully, the win over Ipswich can be a lightning rod in the Hammers’ season. With the miserable home record now put behind them and a feeling of positivity emerging again among supporters, they will be desperate to pick up where they left off after the international break.

Bowen’s display could well be what turns Lopetegui’s tenure around at West Ham.
