Alan Shearer impressed with ‘stunning’ Jesse Lingard performance v Leicester
Premier League legend Alan Shearer was blown away after watching West Ham attacker Jesse Lingard’s ‘stunning’ display in win over Leicester.
West Ham registered a shaky yet impressive victory against fellow top-four side Leicester on Sunday.
With that win, the Hammers narrowed the gap between themselves and Brendan Rodgers’ men to just one point.
Lingard was once again the pick of the show, and the loanee from Manchester United showed why David Moyes was keen to sign him in the January window.
The England international was lethal in front of goal and scored another two goals to take his West Ham tally to eight.
Shearer was certainly impressed by him and added him to his Team of the Week.
He said, “A stunning performance again, with two more goals. Can anyone stop him?”
Lingard was given the man-of-the-match award and an 8.6 rating by WhoScored.
Truly unstoppable
Lingard has been a revelation for West Ham especially as most of us thought that his best days were behind him.
He had a purple patch under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United which resulted in him going to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but since then he has failed to replicate a rich vein of form.
However, since joining Moyes’ side, he seems to be thriving because of the freedom he’s handed by the gaffer.
At Man United, the expectations were far higher than what they are here, and the player was often used as a scapegoat by the fans.
But, at the London Stadium, he’s already turning into something of a short-term cult hero.
Without the services of the 28-year-old, it’s hard to believe that we would still be in contention of the top four.
He’s given us a different dimension in attack and we’re hoping to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
