Alan Shearer brands Lucas Paqueta ‘absolutely stupid’ after West Ham controversy vs Liverpool
Alan Shearer hasn’t held back in his opinion of Lucas Paqueta after he was sent off for West Ham against Liverpool on Sunday.
Paqueta was shown a red card against Liverpool for dissent after the Brazil international continuously complained to referee Darren England at the London Stadium.
The attacking midfielder clapped sarcastically as he left the pitch, and Paqueta could face an extended ban at West Ham as a result.
Jarrod Bowen has come under fire for not defending Paqueta, but there was no stopping the 28-year-old in his complaints towards the match official.
Shearer has been left far from impressed by Paqueta, even after he shared a statement on social media to defend his actions in East London.

Alan Shearer gets heated in Lucas Paqueta rant
Shearer held back on Paqueta while on Match of the Day, but after having time to stew on the actions of the number 10, his verdict changed.
The former Newcastle United star has been left totally baffled by the antics of the Brazilian, who just couldn’t let it go.
The fact that it wasn’t even him who was booked initially has only further confused Shearer and the claret and blue faithful.
Speaking via The Rest is Football podcast on 1 December, the ex-England international made his feelings known about the West Ham man.
He said: “Paqueta, it was a stupid sending off. Absolutely ridiculous it was. Two yellow cards for dissent? The foul he got booked for, it wasn’t even him, it was Fullkrug, he was moaning about that.
“He just wouldn’t stop, and the referee was right to give him another yellow. It was absolutely stupid.
“He’s only just back from a ban as well, for having five yellow cards, isn’t he?
“I get his grievance with what went on beforehand because he was found not guilty of the charges, so I understand that, absolutely, but he has to own today [vs Liverpool], and he cost his team today.“
Shearer unsold on Paqueta statement at West Ham
The ex-Lyon man has been central to an FA investigation in recent years over spot-fixing allegations involving multiple bookings in claret and blue.
Paqueta was found not guilty and ultimately was let down by the governing body and the shoddy nature of their legal case.
The Hammers ace has had little to no additional support from the authorities after this verdict, and has blamed that on his actions against Liverpool.
He said: “It’s ridiculous to have your life and career affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation.
“Perhaps this ridiculous behaviour is just a reflection of everything I’ve had to endure, and it seems I have to continue enduring! I’m sorry if I’m not perfect.“
Shearer had sympathy for Paqueta and what he went through during this case, but was rightly unimpressed by him blaming this on his red card this weekend.
