Alan McInally rages at Nayef Aguerd amid West Ham United loss v Newcastle, Jeff Stelling baffled by ‘shambolic’ defendi

Jeff Stelling and Alan McInally were furious at West Ham following their 5-1 loss to Newcastle while discussing the game live on Sky Sports.

The Hammers were thumped by the Magpies and David Moyes now finds himself on the brink of the sack with the team outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone.

And after Stelling described the five goals the team conceded as “shambolic”, McInally blasted Morocco international Nayef Aguerd for “trying to play like he was Franz Beckenbauer” right after the half-time break for Newcastle’s third goal.

“One of his (Moyes) big selling points is he knows how to get a team organised, particularly defensively,” Stelling said (7 April, 14:08)

“So how do you explain the five shambolic goals that they conceded?

“At the start of the second half, I just can’t believe the goalkeeper,” McInally responded.

“I’m astounded that the centre-half doesn’t give it back to him when he’s under pressure and tries to drag it back like Beckenbauer. Moyes team talk is then a complete waste of time for 15 minutes.

“The other night is the first time I’ve thought that he needs to win his next game, or he’ll be under so much pressure.”

Shocking

It’s simply not good enough. Aguerd made a mistake and that happens, but how many can Moyes make without being held responsible?

Obviously his career precedes him and he has plenty of friends and admirers in the business, but Moyes has been under-performing in the Premier League with West Ham for well over a year now.

The run in the Europa League last season saved his bacon, but this year he hasn’t got that luxury because absolutely nobody cares about the Europa Conference League.

Falling out of the Premier League would be a disaster for the club, so it’s crazy that we’ve got to this point in the season and the club still haven’t moved to replace him in his job.

He’s way past overdue and has to go. The players have to own their mistakes too, but ultimately this falls on the manager. They’re not responding to him anymore and he has to go.
