Alan Brazil goes berserk live on talkSPORT over West Ham United controversy v Sheffield United, ‘What a joke’
Alan Brazil has raged over the decision to not award Jarrod Bowen a late penalty in the West Ham game against Sheffield United on Sunday (21 January).
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (25 January, 07:38am), the host questioned “how the hell” it wasn’t a foul by Anel Ahmedhodzic on the England international in injury time.
He added that it was a joke and that it was one of the worst decisions he’s ever seen on a football pitch as the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.
“How the hell, West Ham against Sheffield United, nothing against Sheffield United because they got themselves back in it,” said Brazil. “It was debatable was it a penalty and McBurnie slams it in. But then, a couple of minutes later, how the hell can that not be a foul?”
“It’s not a foul,” replied Gabby Agbonlahor. “I had the draw on so it’s not a foul on Bowen.”
“[Andrea] Bocelli would give a penalty there,” said a furious Brazil. “The guy is not even looking at the ball.”
“Bowen has thrown himself in the air,” added Agbonlahor. “I had the draw so it’s not a foul.”
“Gabby, get lost,” replied Brazil. “What a joke. That’s one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen in football ever, by the way.”
Ridiculous
There has been disbelief right across the footballing world that Bowen wasn’t given a penalty following what was a clear foul by Ahmedhodzic.
As Brazil rightly points out, the Sheffield United defender wasn’t even looking at the ball before he bundled the Hammers forward to the ground in the dying moments.
While the Irons certainly didn’t deserve to win the game and the Blades were worth at least a point, it was yet another incident where the officiating wasn’t good enough.

It looks as though VAR didn’t take a proper look at the incident as there is no way a team of officials could have decided that wasn’t a penalty if they had several looks at it.
This is why so many people are currently frustrated with VAR because the people in charge of operating it aren’t up to the required standard to officiate in the Premier League.
